I have been doing extensive analysis on a few top services for the upcoming football season. I do better than average on my own but I am looking for some insider insight. I am aware of Kelso Sturgeon and have read the reviews in this forum, which are less than positive feedback. I am taking a hard look again as to whether He is the scammer people say he is.
I am also looking at Steve Corsi's Services @ http://www.gamedaynetwork.com/
Has anyone here dealt with him and what were your experiences?

Thanks in advance for your feedback, I know there are a lot of experienced Handicappers here. I personally have been doing it for 12 years and have never before used a service. I think I know enough now to be able to effectively cipher through their picks and be able to select the winners.

I did pay $25 for 3 picks last season NCAAFB. Jim Hurley with
Vegas Sports Masters. It was funny because the guy gave me the 3 picks and before I hung up I told him which one was a bad pick and was going to lose. I only bet the other 2. I was exactly right. I never used another service since.

Monday 08/03/09 service plays chatter/comps/requests & gm strategy...

-------------------------------------------------------------------

FYI, let's limit the comps to the first 2 pages, I need this thread to be used for chatter and what games members would like to pick up or split. Service thread getting way to much chatter. Ty.

Hot Lines: Today's best MLB bets

Chicago Cubs at Cincinnati Reds (+130)

Reds starter Aaron Harang told the media over the weekend that the club’s acquisition of third baseman Scott Rolen proved that the team wasn’t giving up.

You couldn’t tell from their performance on the field.

Now that the trade deadline has passed and the buyers and sellers have identified themselves, it seems the Reds have retreated to the comforts of the “wait until next year” zone despite adding the perennial All-Star to their infield.

The Reds have lost six straight home games and 12 of 14 overall. They now face a contending Cubs squad that has won eight of their past 11.

The struggling Harang (5-12) has given up 19 earned runs over his past four starts, all losses. This doesn’t bode well against the Cubs who have scored 37 runs over their past four games and sends surging starter Randy Wells to the mound.

Pick: Cubs

San Francisco Giants at Houston Astros (+130)

In order to salvage a chance at contending in the postseason, the Houston Astros need some wins … fast.

Sending erratic veteran Mike Hampton to the mound against Cy Young candidate Matt Cain of the Giants doesn’t look like a good place to start, but the Astros have a few factors working in their favor.

They are 5-1 at home this year against teams from the NL West and are 7-2 in their last nine tilts against the Giants.

San Francisco, coming off an important home series against the Philadelphia Phillies in which it took two of three, has scored just 16 runs in its past six road games (2-4) against the NL Central. The Giants also are 3-9 in their past 12 road games.

Pick: Astros

Streaking and Slumping Pitchers

Streaking

Justin Verlander, Detroit Tigers

Detroit’s cornerstone starter has been earning both his paycheck and his reputation as one of the most reliable pitchers in the American League.

The 26-year-old right-hander is 4-1 in his past five starts, giving up three or fewer earned runs in each outing and holding opponents scoreless in two of them. He has allowed just eight earned runs total in this span. He also has 42 strikeouts against just eight walks during this streak.

Verlander (12-5, 3.16 ERA) has gone at least seven innings in each of his past four starts, including a complete-game, 6-1 win over the Chicago White Sox.

Randy Wells, Chicago Cubs

Wells quietly has become a big reason why the Cubs boast a team ERA of 3.81, which is fifth in the majors.

He has gone 7-1 over his last eight starts, going at least six innings in all but one contest. He has been a model of consistency, yielding four runs or fewer each time out during this span.

In his last start, Wells (7-4, 2.84) shut out the Houston Astros over eight innings while picking up another win. He has notched two of Chicago’s eight wins in their past 10 games.

Slumping

Scott Kazmir, Tampa Bay Rays

Tampa Bay’s erstwhile reliable lefty – he has posted double-figure wins in each of the past four seasons – Kazmir (5-6, 6.22 ERA) has battled both injuries and inconsistency this season.

He is 1-3 with four no-decisions in his past eight starts, and has struggled to find the strike zone despite winning his last start against the New York Yankees.

Kazmir has allowed seven earned runs in three starts during this span, and yielded five earned runs in another, contributing to his hefty ERA.

Kenshin Kawakami, Atlanta Braves

Kawakami (5-8, 4.37 ERA) has been a source of concern for Atlanta’s bullpen of late. He's failed to reach the fifth inning in three of his past six starts.

The 34-year-old righty is 1-2 with three no-decisions during this span; he was tagged for six earned runs in four-plus innings in his last start, a loss to the Florida Marlins.

News and Notes....

Texas puts Kinsler on DL; Mora unhappy in Baltimore

*The Texas Rangers placed second baseman Ian Kinsler on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring, the Associated Press reported Sunday.

Kinsler missed five straight starts and said before the game that the injury hadn't improved, but hadn't gotten worse either. Then, 10 minutes before the game's first pitch against Seattle, the team announced that Kinsler was headed to the DL retroactive to July 29.

Kinsler was hitting .242 with 23 home runs and 63 RBI for the Rangers. Texas is 4-2 this season without its power hitting youngster in the lineup and the club has played under the total in four of those six contests. Expect veteran infielder Omar Vizquel to take over duties at second base until Kinsler returns.

*In other baseball news, third baseman Melvin Mora lashed out at Baltimore Orioles manager Dave Trembley on Sunday after being benched for the third time in four games.

“I don’t appreciate the disrespect, because I've been playing hurt for a guy who won’t respect you. I don’t deserve it,” the 37-year-old Mora said. “I need to have my respect. This is not a guy who just came to the Orioles. This is a guy who’s been here for nine years.”

Mora is a two-time All-Star who hit .285 with 23 homers and 104 RBIs last season despite being bothered by a foot sprain for several weeks. This year, however, Mora is batting .256 with only three homers and 27 RBIs.

*In the National Laegue, Arizona Diamondbacks ace Brandon Webb has opted for season-ending surgery on this pitching shoulder, according to a published report.

Webb’s father, Philip Webb, told the Daily Independent of Ashland, Ky., that Dr. Keith Meister of the Rangers will perform surgery on his son’s right shoulder on Monday in Arlington, Texas.

Webb, the 2006 NL Cy Young winner, had met with Meister this week after consulting with team doctors and three other specialists earlier this month. He had been looking for a way to alleviate stiffness and soreness in his shoulder without surgery.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Detroit Tigers Detroit Tigers
-1½-130 at BOOKM > 11h.

DET -1.5 (-126): Verlander goes to the mound today and its just in time for a struggling DET team who have lost 5 out of last 7. He has won 4 out of his last 5 starts and in that time period has reduced his ERA to a very solid 3.19 on the year. Leading the league in strikeouts is bad news for BAL as this lineup strikes out a ton anyway. BAL can't win on the road with the worst record in the AL (16-34 road record). BAL looks to have thrown in the towel as they have lost 12 of last 16 games. This past weekend BAL gave up 28 runs in three games as they were miserable. Look for DET to get back into the swing of things today and score at least 7 runs. That will be plenty for us to win the run line today as Verlander will go 7 innings of shut out baseball. SCORE DET 7 - BAL 1

Kansas City Royals vs. Tampa Bay Rays Tampa Bay Rays
-133 at BOOKM > 4h.
The Rays and Royals take the field at the Trop for the fourth and final game of their series with Tampa leading 2 games to 1 after the Royals captured their first win on Sunday by a final score of 4 to 1. As far as importance is concerned this contest and this month are vital to the Rays if they are to repeat as AL Champs. They are involved in a very tight race in the AL East while the Royals will be spending their postseason at home. Tampa Bay is 57-47 on the season including 33-17 SU (+8.2) at the Trop. The Royals began the year doing something they seldom do, win but they fell back to earth rather rapidly and now find themselves in very familiar territory with a record of 40-63 SU (-23.2). Kansas City has struggled on the highway posting a record of 17-31 SU (-10.4) averaging a mere 3.4 runs per game with a batting average of 238. They will be sending one of the few bright spots for the team to the bump in Zack Greinke who is 10-6 SU with an ERA of 2.08 on the year. He has faced the Rays and Kazmir already this season back on July 18 in Kansas City losing 4 to 2. Greinke threw for 7 innings allowing one earned run on nine hits with seven strikeouts in the loss. The problem for Greinke is the Royals fail to score runs and their bullpen has an ERA of 4.09 on the road with a WHIP of 1.412. He will be facing a Rays team that averages 5.6 runs per game at home with a .275 BA and 5.5 runs per game versus right-handed starters. Kansas City is 6-21 their last 27 versus a team with a winning record, 6-18 their last 24 versus left-handed starters and 8-22 their last 30 when Greinke starts on the road versus a team with a winning record. Tampa Bay will send left-hander Scott Kazmir to the hill with his 5-6 SU record and ERA of 6.22. Even with the high ERA the Rays have managed to post a 9-6 SU record behind Kazmir this season. Kazmir has shown signs of improvement recently with an ERA of 3.32 while the Rays were 2-1 SU in those contests. The Rays are 77-32 their last 109 games when installed as a home favorite, 66-22 their last 88 home games when facing a right-handed starter, 19-7 their last 26 home games when Kazmir takes the bump, Kazmir is 4-0 his last 4 when installed as a home favorite in this price range and 15-2 as a home favorite of -125 to -175 over the last 2 seasons. We will back the host here as they field a much better team and need to win these types of games if they are to have any chance of repeating. Lay the chalk with the Rays as they take this series with a win on Monday afternoon at the Trop.

Graded Selection: 2* Tampa Bay Rays 3 Kansas City Royals 2

San Francisco Giants vs. Houston Astros San Francisco Giants
-150 at SPBOOK > 12h.
Take the San Francisco Giants on the Moneyline, This pick falls into one of my top MLB systems and the Giants have the superior pitcher on the mound Monday night. Matt Cain (12-2, 2.12 ERA) has pitched solid this season and he was 3-0 with an ERA of just 0.94 over 6 starts in July. The Giants are a perfect 9-0 in Cain's last 9 starts against a team with a losing record and they are 5-1 in their last 6 games as a favorite on the road. The Giants are a red hot 6-1 in their last 7 games and Houston has dropped four of their last five games. Mike Hampton (6-8, 5.36) has struggled over his last 3 starts with an ERA of 9.97 and he has had control problems walking 10 batters over just 15.3 innings during those 3 starts. The Astros are 0-6 in Hampton's last 6 starts against a team with a winning record and they are just 1-6 in his last 7 starts when pitching with just 4 days rest. Take the San Francisco Giants as my MLB Bonus Play for Monday night.

(901) WASHINGTON NATIONALS
(902) PITTSBURGH PIRATES
Take "Over"

The Pirates have pretty much traded away most of their talent. And why not, they are in last place in the NL Central and figure it's time to rebuild with some youth through trades. Despite these two clubs being in last place, they both actually can hit. The Pirates (.259) and Nationals (.264) are five & Six in the NL batting. The problem for both teams is in the pitching department. The Nationals are dead last in team ERA (5.10) and WHIP (1.524). The Pirates aren't much better with a 4.32 ERA and 1.415 WHIP. Don't expect much from today's starters, who between them have just seven wins in the majors. Garret Mock is 0-4 this season with a 7.09 ERA while the Pirate's Charlie Morton is 2-3 with a 3.72 ERA. Morton is the better of the two, but expect both to get hit here on Monday.

(907) SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS
(908) HOUSTON ASTROS

Take "(907) SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS"
The Giants are a poor road team, so laying this kind of lumber with them is risky. But Matt Cain is on fire, while Mike Hampton is having his problems right now, so there's a big mound edge for SF despite Hampton's 15-4 ledger vs. the Giants. There's no way I can step out with this as a strong call because of the numbers involved, but I'd still have to side with Giants as winners tonight.

What about the www.sportsadvisors.com website with Steve Budin and all of his handicapping crew?

Can they be trusted? I wonder about that since I always see tons of ppl posting picks from that site. Are they relatively good?

Monday Mlb comp play GC-

On Monday the Bonus Play is on the Chicago Cubs.Game 903 at 7:10 eastern. The Cubs have solid advantages in this matchup tonight vs the Reds.Chicago has taken 6 of 9 this year from the Reds and catch them at the right time as the Reds now look like a team thats packing it in with a 6 game losing streak. The Reds are hitting under .200 over the past week and have lost 13 of 15 times in the second half vs winning teams. In contrast the Cubs have won 7 of 8 vs losing teams in the second half.Chicago is scoring nearly 7 runs per game over the past week and have a solid pitching edge tonight. The Cubs have R.Wells going tonight and he has been superb in road starts this year with a 2.62 era.The Cubs have won both of his starts vs Cincinatti this year while he allowed 5 runs in 12+ innings.Wells has been on a roll of late winning his last three. The Reds counter with righty A.Harang tonight. In his home starts Harang has a 3.57 home era but he has been shelled of late with a 6.30 era over his last 3 starts, all of which were losses.Ironically August is his worst month.Harang has a 4.83 era in August his worst month over the last 3 years.Based on the pitching matchup and both teams going in different directions, Ill side with the Cubs here in Game one of this series. Those looking for a late phone selection to pound consider Mondays perfect system play which wins by an average 5-1 score. This game has a big pitching edge and should start your week in the right direction. For thr Bonus Play take take the Cubs. bol GC-
